California EC Church family,
This has been a surreal week – perhaps unlike one we have seen in our lifetimes. With the global, state, and local responses to the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) changing no longer by the day, but by the hour, you may be wondering about our church and our upcoming worship services. As of now (though things may even still change) we will still be holding our Sunday School and Worship Services for Sunday, March 15th.
Currently, the PA State Governor has declared a 250 person limit on gatherings and although all schools in PA are closed, there are no confirmed cases in the surrounding counties of our CECC community. However, here is the best recommendation that we can offer at this time: If you are over the age of 65 and/or immuno-compromised in any way, we encourage and would urge you to remain home.
As we gather for worship together, here are some simple and practical reminders in an effort to limit the spread of any sickness (as is our normal practice during the winter season):
– Consider fist or elbow “bumps” or even just a simple wave rather than a traditional handshake or hug. Loving conversations and acknowledgments matter more than a firm handshake or hug.
– Consider washing your hands more regularly
– Consider reaching out and blessing those who are “at-risk” financially, prayerfully, and lovingly.
– Consider adding extra moments of prayer for those affected and hurting not only in our country but around the globe.
Part of the fear we feel about the coronavirus exists because it forces us to come to grips with some uncomfortable truths. Life is fragile and fleeting. And while we do everything we can to ensure our health and longevity, we still don’t have ultimate control. More than ever in my own lifetime, the direction of the culture around us, and the future of all those we love and care for are quite literally in our hands. May God direct the decisions we all make, and the way we all communicate, today and always.
