“And do this, understanding the present time: The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.” (Romans 13:11-12)
So I am a terrible procrastinator. Definitely not something, I am proud off, but it is also definitely true. Sometimes tasks are too easy, so you have to push them off to get the harder tasks done first. But sometimes the harder tasks require too much time all at once, so those have to wait until you can clear enough schedule to tackle them. And all those tasks that you really dislike doing, well tomorrow is always a better day to hit those up. LOL!!! Of course, none of those are actually valid reasons. However, if there was a creed for procrastinators, I am sure some similar rationalizations would be in it. Kidding aside, procrastination does come down to a lack of motivation. Thinking of it in terms of risk versus reward, the procrastinator never sees the risks as being bad enough and never sees the rewards as being good enough. That said, in today’s scripture verse we find a clear exception to the risk versus reward issue when it comes to eternity. There can be no room for procrastination because “the hour has already come.” Paul is urging his readers that the time is now “wake up and smell the coffee.” Because the return of Christ Jesus means salvation for all those who have prepared themselves through faith and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. We can most certainly agree that the time of Jesus’ coming “is nearer now than when we first believed.” Therefore, the motivation is real; the risk has eternal consequences; and the reward is salvation through Jesus. So if you are the procrastinator type or not, don’t put off this decision. Choose Jesus, choose life, and choose salvation.
