A few percentage points was a huge difference in this year’s election, but in practical terms and no matter what your opinion is on the election results, the country is still very much divided. The quoted (approx.) 51 to 48 percent difference essentially means that roughly half of America thinks and feels the same way as you do. With the counter statistic being that approximately 1 out of every 2 Americans disagrees with your opinions on governing this nation. Today’s scripture verse tells us that God will unite all through Christ Jesus’ return. And while we may look forward to that time, we are still called to live out our lives as Christ Jesus did until that time comes. Remembering that Jesus: ate with the tax collectors, halted the stoning of an adulterous woman, spoke to the Samaritan woman, chose fishermen as His “fishers of men” not the elite…and the list could go on. Jesus broke down cultural norms, and associated with people society wouldn’t. So today throw out the olive-branch to someone who may think differently than you (because it’s about half the country).
