“He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, ‘Quiet! Be still!’ Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.” (Mark 4:39)
Sometimes we really must take a step back, look at scripture and ask ourselves, “Do I really believe this happened?” My prayer for us all is that we can have the needed introspection to ask these types of questions. And more importantly that we can come to the honest answer of “Yes” I believe the Bible to be the written and inspired word of God. Now this is definitely true for myself, as I would think it is true for many of you reading this today. So now I want you to think about another question. “How has believing the Bible, as the truth, effected your life?” Well, I’m sure there are many different circumstances and examples that can be provided. But let’s just look at today’s verse. Jesus (who was the “He” in the verse) “rebuked the wind and the waves” just by using His voice. “Quiet! Be still,” was all that was needed to turn the dangerous conditions out on the sea to being “completely calm.” So, believing in the Bible has consequences. Putting our faith in Jesus is putting our faith in God. Jesus walked this earth; calmed the seas with His voice; healed the sick; and rebuked the demons. Believing in the Bible is having faith in the good news of the gospel. Being reassured that Jesus’ promise to return and take us home with Him is true. So yes, saying the Bible is true has consequences. Consequences like knowing that we are more than conquerors in Christ Jesus, and that the battle between good and evil has already been won. If the Bible is true, then God really does love us, for He sent His Son to die for us. And if God truly loves us that much, then yes it should have a lasting affect on each and every day of our lives.
