“God’s voice thunders in marvelous ways; he does great things beyond our understanding. He says to the snow, ‘Fall on the earth,’ and to the rain shower, ‘Be a mighty downpour.’” (Job 37:5-6)
Happy Monday to all, and may God Bless our Veterans and all those who have served this country.
Job is a fascinating account between God, angels, Satan, and mankind. In the book we find that Job’s earthly life was devastated. Not because of any wrongdoing by Job, but because Satan wanted to test his resolve for the Lord. You see, Job was a good God-fearing man. The Lord even called him “blameless and upright” in Job 1:8. But he was also very blessed and was quite wealthy for a man in his day. Satan contended that Job’s good and faithful behavior was not due to his character but because of how well he was doing. Satan asked God if Job would be as strong if those blessings were removed. Now Job’s friends, without the true knowledge of what was going on, pleaded with Job to confess his evil and be restored. For their understanding was that Job must have done something wrong in the eyes of the Lord to be treated like this. And while their rebuke of Job was unjustified, their rationale for repenting to God – being that God is almighty and to be feared – was spot on. Verses 5-6 were just two verses listed out of the two full chapters where Job’s friend Elihu recited the numerous characteristics of our almighty, powerful, and one true God. Each verse in these chapters, like today’s verses, described the magnitude of God and defined the very reasons we are all to love and fear his righteousness and justness. Again, we remember that their words about God were true, but their convictions against Job had no basis. So today we keep these two things in mind: (1) God always deserves our praises, and our repentance when we sin. (2) the supernatural world is real, spiritual warfare exists, and we don’t always know about it.
