“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.” (1 Peter 5:8-9)
“In Greek mythology, the Trojan Horse was a wooden horse said to have been used by the Greeks during the Trojan War to enter the city of Troy and win the war.” – (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trojan_Horse ) We still use the phrase today to describe a type of computer virus that looks like something you want, but clicking it actually overrules your computer’s defense and opens the door to the virus. My point for drawing your attention to the Trojan Horse, is that it only works as a viable tactic when the subject is not expecting it to come. As an example, if a random person were to send me something dangerous in the mail, I would probably (unknowingly) just bring it inside my house and open it. We get packages all the time; the box was addressed to me; it came to my house; I’m most likely going to open it. Strange example I know, but this is exactly how Satan works. He develops something dangerous, sends it into our lives as an unexpected gift, and we “open” it. In today’s scripture verse, Peter is asserting that we need to stay vigilant, and watchful. The devil is lurking all throughout our world, and our lives. Our defences need to be maintained, our RADAR always on, and set to high alert. Because the attacks are coming, and they may not be the frontal assault that we expect. More likely, Satan will offer something precious and valuable to you. Just waiting for you to open the gates. So today be alert, recognize the Trojan Horse for what it is, and say not today to Satan.
