“The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9)
Two weeks before closing, on the house we live in now, it was our son’s birthday and we decided to throw one last party in the old house. The party was going great and then I noticed some commotion in the corner of the room. When I walked over I saw a tipped over glass and a sizable red stain on our cream colored rug. In my head I kept thinking what did this mean for selling this house. Would I need to hire cleaners, would this stain even come out… But my wife came over, looked at it and said “that will come out, no problem.” And it did! It was as good as new when she was finished.
If you’re reading the nuggets daily, we entered a little mini-series on prayer using the EMAW prayer guide of Worship, Admit, and Request (or WAR). Yesterday was worship making today Admit. We all become stained from the sin in our life. No one is perfect, we all need to be saved and that’s exactly what Jesus did for us on the cross. But sometimes we look at the “red stain on the carpet” and start to doubt that we can be forgiven. But Jesus looks at the stain without worry and says “I can make that clean again.” Through repentance and the sacrifice of Jesus in our place, God will forgive. But there has to be an acknowledgement on our part. We need to come to the cross and admit our sin through prayer. We first worship our beloved God and Savior for all that He is, then we come to Him with our honest confession – admitting that we need Him to save us. Jesus can make any stain white again, He just wants to hear us admit what happened and then repent.
