“The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.” (Psalm 103:8-12)
As Christians our prayer life is important. But for many of us, myself being at the top of the list, praying can seem awkward, forced, and even robotic at times. It can be a struggle to find the “right” words and not fall into the trap of rambling off a prayer we had memorized. If this seems familiar to you, well you are not alone. In fact there are dozens (if not more) helper guides for praying. And that doesn’t happen unless there was a need for such things. Our men’s group had a version called WAR, which stood for Worship, Admit, and Request. Everyone needs to start somewhere with prayer, and the WAR method is a great way to give your prayers focus (with a little structure). Now, knowing the components of prayer is good but how do we do it? Today we start with the Worship part. To worship God means to first know what He has done, than praise Him for it. Today’s verses from psalm 103 provides a great opener to any prayer. God has done so many incredible things, from creating us to loving us to saving us. Sometimes it can be hard to put our admiration and affection to words because God is so big. Good news is that God knows all this already. So today, go to God in prayer. Worship Him and honor Him for all that He is. And if you’re like me and need some words to start with – go to psalm 103.
