“God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.” (Hebrews 6:10)
This verse comes out of a section of Hebrews focused on the growth of a Christian. Just prior to this verse is the argument for continual Christian growth and maturity. The verses can be paraphrased by saying “that Christians need to move beyond the basics, know who Christ Jesus is, and put all your focus on Him” – Zondervan. Then we get to today’s verse, Hebrews 6:10, where we are reminded about God’s loving commitment to us. I was listening to a commentary video on this verse, and the speaker started with a simple question. “Who here as ever forgotten something?” Of course we all know how common that is, whether it was your keys, glasses, where you put your wallet or phone, and even forgetting that the pizza was on the roof of your car as you drove away. Yep, that last one happened to me! But as we know how easy it is for us to forget, Hebrews 6:10 tells us that God doesn’t forget. God knows how hard life in a sinful world can be. Jesus wore our created flesh, experienced the devil’s personal attacks and temptation. God knows and walked with mankind during times of persecution. And God doesn’t forget. The author of Hebrews tells us that our work will not be forgotten by God either. God will not forget about the person you helped on the side of the road. The smile you gave to show strength during tough times. He will not forget your work to further His kingdom. And God will not forget all the times you showed your love for others. Today’s verse should bring us comfort in knowing “God is not unjust.” He remembers “the love you have shown Him”. So continue to show God your love for Him by being intentional with your actions and serving others.
