“‘For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,’ declares the Lord. ‘As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.’” (Isaiah 55:8-9)
“God’s knowledge and wisdom are far greater than man’s. We are foolish to try to fit God into our mold – to make His plans and purpose conform to ours. Instead, we must strive to fit into His plans.” – Zondervan, NIV Life Application Study Bible
Today’s verse is a stark reminder on how the created [human kind] cannot be greater than the creator [God]. This idea, even for Christians mature in their faith, can sometimes be forgotten as we go about our daily lives. We look at the world around us and wonder why God has allowed evil to establish such a stronghold. We question things like natural disasters, sickness and poverty. All within our holy huddles (not my phrase, but I love it and use it often) debating on why certain tragedies have effected certain people. Yet when the apostles asked Jesus why a man was blind, was it he who sinned or his parents? – Jesus answered neither. And when Job questioned God on his circumstances, God rightly asked if Job too was present when God formed the mountains.
Yes, God is love. But God loves as a creator and Heavenly Father with the full authority as the author of the universe. God spoke life into existence, formed the planets and the stars and composed an extraordinarily elegant system of physics to hold it all together. Mind you, a system of physics that has still not been completely unwrapped of its mysteries to this day. So yes, God loves us. But we need to be mindful and respectful of our place and remember that a fear of God is a healthy thing. Being humble in our place, as the created, is not only logical but should be our only posture. For His ways are higher than our ways.
