“He replied, ‘Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.’” (Matthew 17:20)
A man goes into the hospital for a rather involved procedure. He is nervous but knows that this procedure is the only path forward for him. He sits in the hospital in anticipation as he needs to wait a few days to get onto the operating room schedule. And then the surgery day comes, he wakes up and the nursing staff starts to get him prepared. He has nothing to do now except wait. The surgery was scheduled for the afternoon but 1pm passes by, 2pm, then 3pm and now its 4pm. He learns that an emergency case has bumped him in the OR schedule. There is a question if there will be any time left in the day to have his surgery. But unknown to him in the moment, there are others lobbying on his behalf. A small church, puts out a prayer chain request.
Asking the church family to pray for this man’s calmness and for the doctors to have time to still take him into surgery. The prayer request went out to the church around 5:05pm, and by 5:20pm the nurses came and took him into surgery! Now this was not just a story stirred up to talk about prayer. This all took place on 6/17. The man was my father, and the procedure was an open heart double by-pass and valve replacement surgery. There are certainly those that will say that this was a coincidence. But 15 minutes after the church called upon the power and glory of God to intercede on my father’s behalf, he was in surgery and it was a complete success. Jesus told His disciples that prayer can move mountains, and indeed it can. So today know that our prayers are heard, and even the immovable mountains will obey God’s voice.
