“Bring to an end the violence of the wicked and make the righteous secure – you, the righteous God who probes minds and hearts.” (Psalm 7:9)
I use a few different sources on the internet to pull the daily verses, and on the day that this verse was posted I must have used a different site. But last night, all my sources had scripture texts that just didn’t seem to resonate with me. So I looked into the archived verses from previous days and this nugget from Psalm 7:9 caught my eye. Looking at the world stage, and more so our own national news, there is a global posture of violence that has not been seen for decades. Wars and conflicts on almost every continent, an assassination attempt on a US candidate for president, and an alignment of world powers against US interests and democracy in general. We are living through some of the most volatile times modern history has seen since the 1940’s. And to all of this, we Christians ask God one thing, “bring an end to the violence.” We conclude such prayers with a simple Amen and hallelujah. Because God’s plan will be carried out. He may put a stop to all the madness we see in the world. Or He may let it carry on such that His majesty and authority over all creation will be seen through His saving grace in the end times. We don’t know. But like the psalmist has done in today’s nugget, we do know it is good to ask our savior to bring it to an end. Quite honestly, I’ll say that current events are unsettling to say the least. Yet the one thing I am certain of is that God saves. He can save us. He will save us. And whether God stops the madness today (for a time) or stops it forever through eternity, God is with us. So today, be mindful of the world events, but continue to put your hope and faith in Christ Jesus, the true source of security.
