“Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you.” (1 Peter 4:12)
This verse from Peter is specifically talking about the persecution that comes from obeying God’s ways over the worlds. Living a Godly life is not easy in our modern society, and today’s verse gives the reminder that we should not be surprised by any of these facts. Furthermore, we shouldn’t attempt to alienate ourselves for being in the fiery ordeal as if the flames of sin are only on us. God wants us to be true with Him and other believers about our trials.
“Matthew West wrote [Truth Be Told] as a reminder to himself that he is a fallen human being and nobody expects him to be perfect. Instead, he needs to be authentic with other people and honest with God, who knows his heart anyway. West explained to Apple Music that the song’s message is that rather than putting on a performance for others, he needs to be true to himself. ‘At what age did I start to realize how to put a face on for people and make sure they all think I’ve got it together? And how dangerous is that in life, and how long have I done that as a preacher’s kid and now a professional Christian singer? What’s the most authentic version of me, and how can I start working on that more?’”
Taken from: ( https://www.songfacts.com/facts/matthew-west/truth-be-told ) Matthew West’s song “Truth Be Told” holds a powerful message for us all. We are not perfect, life will be messy, and we shouldn’t lie to ourselves by lying to others about these facts. Don’t assume everyone else has it together, and that sin only knocks on your door. God knew we required fellowship and promised to be present whenever two or more are gathered in His name. So don’t hide from fellow believers, don’t hold back from God, and let the truth be told.
