“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” (John 1:1-5)
We live in some very strange times. The idea of holding strong to any Christian philosophy is met with, what seems to be, unlimited resistance. What is good and true is targeted for deletion, while misguided views and deception boil up to the top of our society as the new standard. But even if you subscribe to these claims that I stated, not all has been lost. In today’s verse, the Apostle John reaffirms that “the light [which is Jesus] shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” Evidence of this truth exist in each and every one of us that proclaim Jesus as our Savior. You see, even in the dark times upon us God’s light will always overcome the darkness. If we hold to the idea that Jesus cannot be just a prophet if He Himself claimed to be God. Then we force this generation to consider their stance on these topics. This is how we become the kindling for the flame of Christ to burn. Yes, Jesus is the light and the source of all creation. But as we learn about Christ, as we reinforce our belief in Him, as we develop the childlike faith in the God who saves – we too become reflections of Jesus’ light. And the true God in Heaven can use that light to outshine even the darkest of times. Our society has unfortunately turned away from God. But Jesus’ light burns strong through the Holy Spirit in each of us. And where there is light, there can be no darkness.
