“For the Lord is our judge, the Lord is our lawgiver, the Lord is our king; it is he who will save us.” (Isaiah 33:22)
Roughly 2700 years ago, Isaiah made a statement that was as valid on the day it was written as it is today. Our God and Heavenly Father is our judge, lawgiver, king, and the only one who can save us. These fundamental truths define the Christian theology. Which can be understood by saying; sin entered the world through Adam and Eve in the garden. God then gave His people the Law to identify sin and separate His chosen people from pagan influences. And throughout history God brought judgement on both His people as well as the non-God fearing civilizations of the world. Through these acts, our God demonstrated His kingship across all living things. But the beauty of Christianity is not found entirely in its history, but in the hope of a future promised by the King. As lawgiver, God provided the Law which outlined sin in our lives and generated a sacrificial system to atone for those sins. He did so, knowing that mankind would never stop sinning, and that sacrifices of animals could only cover our sins for a temporary time. All of which pointed to the need for the Messiah. A savior that could break the yoke of sin for all mankind across all times. God knew that we would not be able to do this for ourselves. Leading to the true difference and ultimate beauty of Christianity. God sent His Son to die for us, in our place. As our King, lawgiver, and righteous judge, God decided – because it was within His authority to do so – to save us. He decided to show the ultimate mercy and pay our price at that cross. Leaving faith in Christ Jesus as the only cost rendered on us. Today, those who have this faith in Jesus, have been saved. The only question remaining is what will you do with this gift?
