“For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” (Luke 19:10)
The single word question “Why?” has been a powerful question used across many disciplines. From a scientific perspective, it has led to amazing findings and progress. In fact it’s been a long standing tradition that Sir Isaac Newton formed the theories of classical physics all by pondering the question “Why did the apple fall?” Even in my job, I often ask employees this same question “Why?” You see when smart people have been thinking about a topic for a long period of time they come to conclusions that makes sense within the context of how they have been viewing the topic. And when they disclose results to others it rarely makes sense to everyone else at first. But asking Why, forces the person to think about the approach and results in a different way. Sometimes when attempting to answer Why, they come to the notion that their previous conclusions were wrong. Other times the further explanation forms a deeper understanding for both the person asking Why, and the person answering. I believe that God truly appreciates the question Why? And through scripture God even gives us an answer that we can understand. Why did God send us His Son? From Luke 19:10, God sent us Jesus to “save the lost.” Without Jesus, the Messiah, we were a wandering creation lost in our own sin. There was no hope of conquering the sins of the world that led to death. Yet, with Jesus – God with us – our hope was renewed and the wandering ended. So today, use the “ask Why” method to gain a better understanding of your own faith. Why do you believe in Christ Jesus? Why put your faith into action? Why read the bible? Pondering the answers to all these question will be sure to put you in a direct path with the very God already sent to find you.
