“For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities – his eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.” (Romans 1:20)
Why does Earth stay in orbit around the Sun? How does light travel? What holds atoms together? For centuries, scientists have sought to describe the forces that dictate interactions on the largest and smallest scales, from planets to particles. They understand that there are four fundamental forces – gravity, electromagnetism, and the strong and weak nuclear forces – that are responsible for shaping the universe we inhabit. Okay I know what y’all are thinking, “more science stuff in the nugget?” But two things to consider; (1) I pulled the verse from biblegateway, and (2) science is our method of trying to understand how things work. And today’s scripture verse reminds us that there is no better way of describing God’s glory than peering into His creation. The quote from nasa.gov just wonderfully describes the mastery of God’s design in terms of scientific observation. The simplistic elegance God used to design our world is absolutely breathtaking. Think about the fact that just four forces can explain all the natural occurring phenomena we know of. Everything from planetary motion, to why we have an atmosphere, and how copper can conduct electric while plastic bends. These are all explained by four unseen but highly observable forces. Likewise, our God – the creator of these things – is also unseen but very much observable too. We observe God in all that He created, from the tallest mountains to the most distant stars. Our Heavenly Father is the most widely viewed artist known to mankind. His tapestry was the raw material, He created, and spoke into life. We are all living proof of the one true God and His “power and divine nature can be clearly seen.”
